Lieutenant Fetterling

Lieutenant Sarah Fetterling began her career with the Tustin Police Department in January 2008 as a Police Recruit. In July 2008, Lieutenant Fetterling graduated from Golden West College Police Academy, Class #135.

CAREER

OFFICER

During her career as a Tustin Police Officer, Lieutenant Fetterling has worked a variety of assignments including Honor Guard, Special Enforcement Detail (SED) team, Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), and Field Training Officer (FTO).

SERGEANT

Lieutenant Fetterling was promoted to Sergeant in July 2015 and spent 3 years assigned to the Patrol Division. During her time in patrol, Lieutenant Fetterling held collateral assignments such as Scheduling Sergeant, Use of Force reviewer, Honor Guard coordinator and Field Training Officer coordinator. 

In June 2018, Lieutenant Fetterling was assigned as the Traffic Unit Supervisor. Lieutenant Fetterling became the first female riding motorcycle officer for Tustin PD. As the Traffic Unit Supervisor, Lieutenant Fetterling oversaw the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) grant, Permit Parking program, and Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT).

In September 2019, Lieutenant Fetterling was assigned as the Community Resources Unit Supervisor. This was a new unit that included two Community Relations Police Services Officers, a Homeless Liaison Officer (HLO), a Community Impact Officer (CIO), and the Emergency Operations Coordinator. Lieutenant Fetterling also helped with the implementation of the Behavioral Health Response Unit (BHRU).

In August 2022, Lieutenant Fetterling returned to the Patrol Division.

LIEUTENANT

In February 2023, Lieutenant Fetterling was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and was assigned to the Patrol Division as the South Area Commander, She is responsible for managing all policing activities in the City of Tustin south of the I-5 freeway. Lieutenant Fetterling also oversees the Honor Guard program.

EDUCATION & TRAINING

Lieutenant Fetterling has a bachelor's degree in Political Science with a Minor in International Relations from California State University, Chico. While attending CSU Chico, Lieutenant Fetterling played for their Division I women's rugby team.

Lieutenant Fetterling is also a graduate of the POST-certified Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute Academy, Class #487.

PERSONAL LIFE

In her spare time, Lieutenant Fetterling enjoys traveling with her family.
