Lieutenant Garcia

Lieutenant Garcia began his career with the South Gate Police Department in September 1996 and lateraled to the Tustin Police Department in February 2002.  Lieutenant Garcia attended and graduated from the Rio Hondo Police Academy, class 124.

CAREER

During his career as a South Gate and Tustin Police Officer, Lieutenant Garcia has worked a variety of assignments including patrol officer, motor officer, reserve officer coordinator, Honor Guard member, gang unit detective and field training officer.

SERGEANT

Lieutenant Garcia was promoted to Sergeant in August 2009.  Upon his promotion he was assigned a patrol supervisor and he also oversaw the department’s K-9 program.  In 2014, Lieutenant Garcia was selected as the Gang Unit supervisor.  As a Gang Unit supervisor, he and his team were responsible for gang documentation, suppression and intelligence.  In 2019, he was appointed as the Traffic Unit supervisor where he oversaw all components of the traffic unit including the Major Accident Investigations Unit (MAIT).

LIEUTENANT

In August 2020, he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned as the South Area Commander.  In this position, Lieutenant Garcia was responsible for managing all policing activities in Tustin south of the I-5 freeway. He also managed the Tustin Police Department Honor Guard.  In August of 2022, Lieutenant Garcia transferred to the North area of Tustin as the North Area Commander.  In February of 2023, Lieutenant Garcia transferred to the City Operations Division.

EDUCATION

Lieutenant Garcia is a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute. 

PERSONAL LIFE

In his spare time, Lieutenant Garcia enjoys spending time with his family and supporting their many extracurricular activities.
