Batteries (button cell, lithium, silver oxide, zinc-air, and zinc-carbon) are considered hazardous waste and require special care upon disposal or recycling. Car batteries should also be handled properly (see tips below). Batteries should never be disposed of in your trash bin due to environmental impacts to the landfill and potential fire hazards.
Local drop off locations for batteries and light bulbs include:
- City Hall, 300 Centennial Way
- Tustin Senior Center, 200 S. C Street
- Woodward's Ace Hardware, 2343 N. Tustin Avenue
- Shell Gas Station, 13131 Jamboree Road
In addition, CR&R and the City host two (2) household hazardous waste drop-off events each year and provide one free collection from single-family homes per year on an as-needed basis. Drop-off events are generally held in November and May. The next HHW collection event will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please refer to this flyer for more information about the event.
