As required by state law, SB 1383, the City of Tustin implemented an organic recycling program in partnership with CR&R. Since July 1, 2021, Tustin residents can recycle food scraps by placing them in their green cart. Historically, this cart has been used for yard trimmings only. CR&R takes all organic material collected to their composting facility to be turned into soil amendment.
Every residential property was provided with a Kitchen Food Scrap Container. This small pail can be used for the collection of food scraps while prepping meals and plate scrapings. Paper towels and napkins can also be placed in this container.
This program was implemented to ensure all residents comply with Senate Bill 1383, which requires all CA residents and businesses to recycle organic materials.
