[ARCHIVED] Assault with a Deadly Weapon

On Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at approximately 9 am officers responded to the area of Carlann Circle and Pasadena Avenue reference a fight on the street. Callers reported a “big group” fighting and one subject being detained by the group. On arrival, officers interviewed witnesses and detained one male subject. There were three victims with injuries, two with facial cuts and one with abrasions on his hand/wrist area.

After the initial investigation, officers learned one male victim was approached by two male suspects.  The suspects verbally challenged the victim and without warning, both male suspects began assaulting the victim.  The victim’s family members and other residents saw what was happening and all came to his aid.  When one of the suspects was being held down by the victims and neighbors, the second suspect obtained a shovel and began hitting several people in the group in an apparent attempt to free the first suspect.  Several subjects received non-life-threatening wounds as a result of being struck by a metal shovel. The second suspect fled the scene on foot prior to the officers arriving on scene.

After an investigation, detectives identified the outstanding suspect. The suspect was located at his residence in Santa Ana and was taken into custody without incident.

There appears to be no obvious relationship between the victims and suspects. The motive for this attack appears to be gang related. Both suspects were booked into the Orange County Jail. The suspect detained at the scene is facing charges of assault and battery. The suspect later located at his residence is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon. Both suspects are on active parole. There are no outstanding suspects and no danger to the community.
