In the early morning hours of November 7, 2023, the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) and Tustin Police Department received notification of a fire at the North Hangar.
Crews immediately responded, assessed the fire and OCFA determined the building was too dangerous to enter as it was in danger of collapsing. No injuries were reported and firefighters did not believe anyone was inside the building when the fire broke out. The cause of the fire and where it began are under investigation.
The iconic North and South Tustin Hangars, two of the world's largest wooden structures, played a critical role in Navy and Marine aviation including every major U.S. Military operation from 1942-1992, including WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and Operation Desert Storm. The Hangars will always occupy a place of honor in the military and architectural history of the country and the region. The North Hangar, located near Valencia Avenue and Armstrong Road, is currently owned by the Department of the Navy. For more information, please visit Tustin Hangars.
