Lieutenant Robert Wright began his career with the Tustin Police Department in June 1990 as a police recruit. Lieutenant Wright attended and graduated from the Orange County Sheriff Department's Police Academy, Class 100.
During his career as a Tustin Police Officer, Lieutenant Wright has worked a variety of assignments including patrol officer, field training officer, and personnel officer.
Lieutenant Wright was promoted to Sergeant in 2005, and spent four year as a Patrol Sergeant where he oversaw the department's K-9 program. In 2009, Lieutenant Wright was selected as the Special Enforcement Detail supervisor, and in 2011, he was appointed as the General Investigations supervisor.
In 2014, Lieutenant Wright was promoted to Lieutenant and he served as the Professional Standard's Division Commander with oversight of the Department's:
- Administrative Investigations
- Cadet Program
- Community Events
- Personnel and Training
- Volunteer Program
Additionally, he served as the Department's Press Information Officer.
Special Operations Division Commander
Lieutenant Wright is currently assigned as the Special Operations Division Commander and his responsibilities include management of
- Gang Unit
- General Investigations
- Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) personnel
Lieutenant Wright also manages the Explorer Program and the First Aid Program.
Lieutenant Wright earned a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies from California State University, Fullerton. He is also a graduate of the POST Supervisory Leadership Institute and has completed the POST Management Course.
Having spent his formative years in Tustin, Lieutenant Wright maintains deep connections to the community. He is active in several outreach endeavors including serving as a board member of the Tustin Public Schools Foundation and a volunteer auditor for the Miss Tustin Pageant.
In his spare time, Lieutenant Wright enjoys spending time with his family and supporting their many extracurricular activities.
