Deputy Chief Wright

Deputy Chief Robert Wright began his career with the Tustin Police Department in June 1990 as a police recruit. Deputy Chief Wright attended and graduated from the Orange County Sheriff Department's Police Academy.  

Career

During his career as a Tustin Police Officer, Deputy Chief Wright has worked a variety of assignments including patrol officer, field training officer, and personnel officer.

Sergeant

Deputy Chief Wright was promoted to Sergeant in 2005.  Upon his promotion he was assigned as a patrol supervisor and he also oversaw the department’s K-9 program.  In 2009, Deputy Chief Wright was selected as the Special Enforcement Detail (SED) supervisor.  As the SED supervisor he and his team were responsible for directed enforcement throughout the city addressing significant crime trends.  In 2011, he was appointed as the General Investigations supervisor where he oversaw the department’s investigations unit.

Lieutenant

In 2014, Deputy Chief Wright was promoted to Lieutenant and was assigned to the Professional Standard's Division Commander with oversight of the Department's:

  • Administrative Investigations
  • Cadet Program
  • Community Events
  • Personnel and Training
  • Volunteer Program

Additionally, he served as the Department's Press Information Officer.

CAPTAIN

In 2019, Deputy Chief Wright was promoted to Captain and served as the Community Policing Bureau Commander overseeing:

  • Citywide Patrol
  • Traffic and Detective Operations
  • Neighborhood Improvement Task Force Meetings
  • Tustin Homeless Coalition
  • Community Outreach Events

Education

Deputy Chief Wright earned a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies from California State University, Fullerton. He is also a graduate of the POST Supervisory Leadership Institute and has completed the POST Management Course.

Community

Deputy Chief Wright grew up in Tustin and maintains deep connections to the community. He serves as a board member of the Tustin Public Schools Foundation and has been a long-time volunteer for the Miss America Organization including volunteer as an auditor for the Miss Tustin pageant.

Personal Life

In his spare time, Deputy Chief Wright enjoys spending time with his family and supporting their many extracurricular activities.
